Position Title: Clinical Nurse

Primary Purpose of the Position

The Clinical Nurse will provide direct patient care, including assessment, diagnosis support, treatment, follow-up, and health education. The role requires strong clinical skills, adherence to national health protocols, accurate recordkeeping, and collaboration with multidisciplinary health teams to ensure quality healthcare services for vulnerable populations.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct patient interviews and physical examinations to support diagnosis.

  • Document laboratory requests, findings, and clinical notes in patient files and registers.

  • Prescribe treatments with attention to dosage, side effects, and patient safety.

  • Identify and refer patients requiring medical doctor consultation.

  • Ensure consultations start and end according to schedule.

  • Perform PIT when necessary and report all HIV-positive cases to the HIV Program.

  • Ensure full integration of Family Planning (FP) services during consultations.

  • Maintain medical materials and equipment.

  • Coordinate with other health staff on self-assessment of clinical skills and challenges.

  • Register patients and maintain records in line with health center protocols.

  • Follow up on consulted and hospitalized patients.

  • Organize and manage patient files according to confidentiality and organizational standards.

  • Provide patients with clear information on their conditions, medications, and health education.

  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor or Alight Health Coordinator.


Education, Technical Skills & Knowledge Required

  • Minimum A1 Diploma in Nursing or related field from a recognized institution.

  • Full registration and valid practicing license with the Rwanda Medical Council.

  • 2–3 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in low-resource or fast-paced environments.

  • Experience working with vulnerable or displaced populations.

  • Knowledge of:

    • Health Information Systems

    • Nutrition protocols

    • HIV and Primary Health Care guidelines

    • Reproductive Health and Rwanda Ministry of Health protocols

  • Experience in patient data collection and health systems monitoring.

  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.

  • Fluency in Kinyarwanda and English or French.

  • Experience working in refugee settings is an added advantage.
