Position Overview
The Health Education Officer will design, implement, and monitor community health education and promotion activities.
The role focuses heavily on supervising and strengthening the capacity of Community Health Workers (CHWs) to deliver life-saving health information and promote healthy behaviors within humanitarian settings.
Key Responsibilities
The Health Education Officer will:
Lead and coordinate community health education activities in collaboration with health and protection teams.
Supervise, mentor, and train Community Health Workers (CHWs).
Monitor CHW performance through field visits, coaching sessions, and performance reviews.
Develop culturally appropriate Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials.
Organize community dialogues, outreach sessions, and focus group discussions on key topics such as:
Hygiene and sanitation
Maternal health
Nutrition
GBV prevention
Disease prevention
Collaborate with the Monitoring & Evaluation team to collect and analyze community health data.
Coordinate with community leaders to ensure participation in health promotion activities.
Prepare reports on CHW activities, challenges, and community health trends.
Ensure activities comply with national health guidelines and donor requirements.
Support emergency health messaging during outbreaks or emergencies.
Required Competencies
Applicants should demonstrate:
Strong leadership and supervision skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
Experience designing and delivering health education sessions.
Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda (written and spoken).
Strong reporting and documentation skills.
Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing environments.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates must have:
Bachelorโs Degree in:
Public Health
Community Health
Health Education
Or a related field.
Minimum 3 years of experience in:
Health promotion
Community mobilization
Humanitarian health programs.
Prior experience supervising Community Health Workers is strongly preferred.
Familiarity with national community health strategies and guidelines.
