About the Company
Services Company Outgrowers Nyaruguru (North) – SCON(N) Ltd was established to support the planting and development of tea on approximately 3,400 hectares of land by over 6,000 smallholder farmers. The company provides agronomic advisory services, Farmer Field School training, access to finance, and production logistics.
Through these interventions, SCON(N) Ltd aims to make a significant contribution to Rwanda’s tea sector by supplying at least 75% of green leaf production to Browns Plantations Rwanda Ltd, while improving farmer livelihoods and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
Job Overview
SCON(N) Ltd is seeking a qualified, detail-oriented, and self-motivated Tea Field Agronomist to provide technical agronomic support to tea farmers. The role focuses on improving tea productivity, quality, and sustainability through effective extension services, training, and field supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate and participate in farmer sensitization, registration, and land mapping activities.
Provide effective tea extension services, including training on quality leaf plucking and best agronomic practices.
Conduct regular field visits to ensure proper land preparation, planting, and aftercare maintenance.
Participate in mother bush selection and preparation of tea cuttings.
Ensure proper nursery development and management for successful seedling propagation.
Coordinate plucking regimes and oversee weighing, collection, and transportation of green leaf.
Ensure collection centers are adequately equipped with electronic weighing and recording tools.
Participate in timely distribution and proper application of farm inputs, ensuring accountability.
Maintain accurate records of farmers, land, and allocated inputs.
Prepare and submit weekly and monthly reports on time.
Conduct soil analysis, fertilization planning, and plant nutrient assessments.
Ensure effective pest and disease control measures are implemented.
Supervise pruning, harvesting, leaf grading, and quality selection processes.
Respond promptly to farmer queries and complaints and escalate grievances where necessary.
Perform any other duties assigned by the General Manager.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Agribusiness, Horticulture, Crop Science, or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years’ professional experience in agricultural extension services, preferably within the tea industry.
Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda is preferred.
Ability to work in rural settings with minimal supervision.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple field activities effectively.
