Job Purpose

The MRM Assistant supports the Junior Geologist and Junior Surveyor in performing daily geological and survey tasks both underground and on the surface.

The role involves physical work, including carrying equipment, collecting samples, and assisting with geological and survey processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist Geologists and Surveyors with underground and surface surveying activities.

• Prepare and transport equipment needed for daily tasks.

• Carry equipment to locations where geological or survey tasks are performed.

• Support mapping of surface and underground geological features.

• Drill holes in rock to install survey pegs.

• Ensure the surveyor has a clear view of the prism when using a total station.

• Assist in sample preparation, including:

  • weighing

  • crushing

  • mechanical sieving

  • riffle splitting

  • cone quartering

  • panning

  • packaging

• Collect and transport geological samples from designated areas.

• Safeguard equipment when working underground or in the field.

• Report measurements accurately to the Junior Geologist and Junior Surveyor.

• Ensure safe working conditions and proper use of PPE.

• Clean and store equipment after completing tasks.

• Comply with company policies and procedures.

• Perform additional duties assigned by the Technical Services Department or Management.

Job Requirements

Applicants should have:

Education

• High School Certificate

Experience

• Minimum 1 year experience in an underground mining environment

Skills & Competencies

• Basic knowledge of geological processes

• Physically fit and capable of manual work

• Strong discipline and precision

• Trustworthy with good personal conduct

• Motivated and performance-driven

• Ability to work effectively within a team

• Strong safety awareness
