POSITION SUMMARY
The Driver provides safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services for ForAfrika Rwanda staff, visitors, and materials. The role ensures proper care and maintenance of assigned vehicles, strict adherence to traffic laws and organizational policies, and logistical support to programme implementation across Rwanda.
KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Transportation Services (40%)
Provide safe and timely transport for staff, visitors, and authorized personnel
Transport goods, materials, equipment, and documents for program and office operations
Plan efficient travel routes considering road conditions, traffic, safety, and fuel economy
Support field visits across Rwanda, including airport transfers
Assist passengers with loading and unloading
Maintain professionalism, punctuality, and passenger comfort
2. Vehicle Maintenance & Care (25%)
Conduct daily vehicle checks (fuel, oil, water, tyres, brakes, lights, etc.)
Keep vehicle clean and presentable at all times
Report mechanical issues and coordinate approved servicing and repairs
Ensure valid insurance, road tax, and inspection certificates
Maintain vehicle tools, first aid kit, fire extinguisher, and emergency equipment
Secure vehicle in designated parking areas
3. Safety & Compliance (15%)
Strictly adhere to Rwanda traffic laws and ForAfrika driving policies
Enforce seatbelt use and vehicle safety standards
Maintain valid driving license and vehicle documentation
Immediately report accidents, incidents, or violations
Follow security protocols during field travel
Prohibit unauthorized passengers and non-official vehicle use
Zero tolerance for alcohol or substance use while driving
4. Administrative Support (10%)
Maintain accurate vehicle logbooks (trips, mileage, fuel usage)
Submit fuel receipts and maintenance invoices on time
Complete trip request forms and obtain approvals
Prepare monthly vehicle usage and maintenance reports
Support office errands (banking, document delivery, post office)
Maintain confidentiality at all times
5. Logistics Support (10%)
Support procurement logistics (collect quotations, pick up supplies)
Assist with loading, unloading, and handling of materials
Support transport logistics for trainings, workshops, and events
Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor
SUCCESS MEASURES (KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS)
Zero accidents attributable to driver negligence
100% compliance with traffic laws and organizational policies
Well-maintained vehicle with minimal breakdowns
Timely completion of all trips with positive passenger feedback
Accurate and timely submission of logbooks and reports
Efficient fuel usage within acceptable limits
Valid licenses and vehicle documents at all times
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Required
Minimum Secondary School Certificate (O’Level)
Valid Rwanda Driving License (Category B minimum; D/E preferred)
Minimum 3 years of professional driving experience, preferably with NGOs or international organizations
Clean driving record
Strong knowledge of Rwanda road networks and traffic regulations
Basic vehicle maintenance skills
Ability to work flexible hours and travel extensively
Fluency in Kinyarwanda and English; French is an advantage
Desirable
Defensive driving certification
First aid certification
Experience driving 4x4 vehicles in rural terrain
NGO or humanitarian sector experience
Basic computer literacy
