IT Engineer – Mining Technology & Systems

Role Purpose

The intern will assist in designing, deploying, operating, securing, and maintaining IT and communication systems used in mining operations.

This includes:

• UHF/VHF radio systems

• Communication repeaters and amplifiers

• Sensors and telemetry systems

• UHF/VHF radio networks

• IT infrastructure for mining environments

Core Technical Competencies

1. Networking & Infrastructure

• TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs

• LAN/WAN networks (surface and underground environments)

• Fiber optics (single-mode and multi-mode)

• Wireless networks (Wi-Fi and point-to-point radios)

• Network monitoring and troubleshooting

2. Communication Systems

• UHF/VHF radios

• Repeaters, antennas, and amplifiers

• Emergency communication systems

3. Sensors & IoT Systems

• Environmental and equipment sensors

• Telemetry and basic SCADA systems

• Data acquisition and IoT gateways

4. Servers & Data Management

• Windows and Linux servers

• Cloud computing basics (AWS, Azure, GCP)

• Data backup and synchronization

• Handling large LiDAR and SLAM datasets

Education Requirements

• A1 or above in one of the following fields:

  • Electronics & Telecommunications

  • Computer Engineering

  • Network Engineering

Additional Skills

• Strong troubleshooting ability

• Ability to work independently in mine site environments

• Strong safety awareness

• Clear communication and documentation skills

• Willingness to travel frequently
