Project Background
The Consortium of Medical Schools in Africa (COMS-A) is a collaborative network of medical schools across Africa committed to strengthening medical education, research, and health workforce development across the continent. COMS-A promotes collaboration, innovation, and excellence in health professions education through joint programs, capacity building, knowledge sharing, and strategic partnerships.
COMS-A organizes the Medical Education Africa Conference (MedEd Africa Conference), an annual conference dedicated to strengthening medical education across Africa by connecting local knowledge with global expertise. The 2026 conference will take place from July 6–8, 2026 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
As COMS-A and MedEd Africa continue expanding their digital presence and engagement with member institutions, there is a growing need for dedicated support in IT services, website management, and digital communications.
Purpose of the Internship
COMS-A seeks an IT & Communications Intern to support its digital infrastructure, online platforms, and social media presence. The intern will help maintain an effective and professional online presence while supporting basic IT and web-related needs of the Secretariat.
This internship offers hands-on experience in IT support, website maintenance, and digital content management within a pan-African academic and professional network.
Major Responsibilities
The IT & Communications Intern will:
1. IT & Communication Support
Provide basic IT and web desk support to the COMS-A Secretariat
Assist in troubleshooting minor technical and website-related issues
Support digital file organization and system updates
2. Website Maintenance
Update and maintain the COMS-A website
Upload and edit content (news, events, documents, images, and links)
Ensure website content is accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with COMS-A branding
Support improvements to website structure and usability
3. Social Media Content Creation & Management
Create social media content (text, visuals, and basic graphics)
Schedule and publish content on COMS-A platforms
Monitor engagement and maintain consistent online activity
Support campaigns, announcements, and program visibility
4. Digital Communication Support
Assist in preparing digital materials for meetings and events
Support online forms, links, and digital application processes
Expected Deliverables
Updated and regularly maintained COMS-A website
Consistent social media content and posting schedule
Timely IT and web desk support
Organized and up-to-date digital files and materials
Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Web Development, Communications, or related field
Basic knowledge of website management (CMS platforms preferred)
Familiarity with social media platforms and digital content tools
Basic IT troubleshooting skills
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow branding guidelines
Good communication and teamwork skills
Strong written and oral English
Interest in health education, academic networks, or digital communications is an added advantage
