About AIMS
The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) is a pan-African network of centres of excellence dedicated to postgraduate training, research, and public engagement in mathematical sciences and STEM. Founded in 2003 in Cape Town, South Africa, AIMS has since expanded to Senegal, Ghana, Cameroon, and two centres in Rwanda.
AIMS empowers talented young Africans to become creative leaders in science, technology, academia, government, and industry through world-class education delivered by leading international lecturers in an intensive learning environment.
Position Overview
Based at the AIMS Research and Innovation Centre (AIMS RIC), the Graphic Design Analyst will support institutional programs by creating high-quality visual content, including graphic designs, motion graphics, and video edits. The role requires both creative design skills and an understanding of effective visual communication.
Key Responsibilities
Design visually engaging content such as graphics, illustrations, motion graphics, and edited videos
Develop communication materials for various platforms, including social media, events, and promotional campaigns
Collaborate with program and communications teams to understand objectives and translate them into compelling visual assets
Support multiple departments while ensuring brand consistency and high-quality output
Assist in producing event banners, digital publications, and other design materials
Coordinate with the Communications Manager to manage timelines and meet deadlines
Contribute creative ideas to enhance visual storytelling and communication strategies
Maintain and organize the digital asset library for easy access and reuse
Required Qualifications and Experience
Recently completed a degree in Communication, Graphic Design, or a related field
Proficiency in Canva and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects)
Strong understanding of design principles, typography, and visual storytelling
Experience translating communication concepts into engaging visual content
Familiarity with video editing tools and techniques
A portfolio showcasing graphic design and motion graphics work
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines
