Job Overview

AB Rwanda Plc is seeking a qualified, competent, and experienced professional to fill the position of Principal Insurance Officer. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing and growing the Bank’s Bancassurance business while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and delivering excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Solicit and procure insurance business on behalf of the Bancassurance agent.

  • Clearly explain insurance products and services to prospective policyholders without misrepresentation.

  • Assess customer needs and recommend suitable insurance plans.

  • Inform prospective policyholders of applicable insurance premiums.

  • Explain proposal form requirements and the importance of full disclosure of material facts.

  • Collect and submit all required documents to insurers and inform clients of proposal acceptance or rejection.

  • Assist policyholders, claimants, or beneficiaries during claims processing and settlement.

  • Notify insurers of any adverse habits, inconsistent income, or material facts that may affect underwriting decisions.

  • Identify oneself to prospective policyholders, insured persons, and insurers as required.

  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures in all Bancassurance services.

  • Lead the development of the Bancassurance strategy and advise Management on execution and monitoring.

  • Supervise daily Bancassurance operations including cross-selling, risk posting, claims administration, and documentation.

  • Supervise specified persons involved in Bancassurance activities.

  • Resolve customer inquiries promptly in line with policies and procedures.

  • Manage correspondence with insurance companies.

  • Represent the Bank at conferences, business meetings, and industry events.

  • Perform any other duties assigned by Management.

Reporting Responsibilities

  • Prepare and reconcile insurance premiums payable to insurers.

  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports to the Central Bank, including but not limited to:

    • Gross premiums collected (life and non-life) per insurance class

    • Commission received or receivable per insurance class

    • Number of policies in force, cancelled, lapsed, or terminated

    • Claims reported and customer complaints received

    • Fraud incidents encountered

    • Remedial actions taken to address customer complaints

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Insurance, Finance, Accounting, Actuarial Science, or a related field.

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as an insurance underwriter, claims officer, or sales officer.

  • Completion of foundation courses provided by ASSAR or CII (Diploma is an added advantage).

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Excellent planning and organizational abilities.

  • High attention to detail.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.
