Position Overview

The Project Assistant will support implementation of RTV programs at village level, working closely with community structures and Cell-level government officials to ensure successful execution of project activities.

This is a highly field-based role requiring approximately 90% travel, including work in remote and hilly terrain.


Key Responsibilities

1. Project Implementation

  • Conduct project design review meetings with partner villages

  • Coordinate and co-facilitate trainings (financial literacy, mindset change, WASH, VSLA, agriculture, livestock care, health outreach, etc.)

  • Implement RTV methodologies to increase household income and reduce extreme poverty

  • Submit procurement requests for required goods and services

  • Verify goods/inputs prior to distribution

  • Conduct follow-ups with households and community groups

  • Identify risks and propose mitigation measures

  • Hold regular meetings with community leadership


2. Government & Community Coordination

  • Maintain strong working relationships with Cell-level officials (SEDOs & Executive Secretaries)

  • Collaborate with community leadership structures (Inteko z’abaturage, Incuti z’umuryango, Abajyanama b’Ubuzima, farmer promoters, para-social workers, community coaches, etc.)

  • Mobilize households for trainings and program activities

  • Support training of community and cell-level actors on RTV methodology and M&E tools

  • Provide ongoing field support to community and government actors

  • Promote collaboration and community ownership for sustainable impact


3. Reporting & Administration

  • Develop and manage workplans

  • Submit weekly field reports

  • Support donor reporting and proposal information sharing

  • Participate in staff and cluster meetings

  • Complete weekly financial requests and accountabilities

  • Take and submit photographs for the data repository


4. Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Support attendance tracking and basic data collection

  • Conduct household follow-ups

  • Provide feedback and recommendations to improve program implementation

  • Suggest improvements to strengthen sustainability of RTV projects


Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Social Work, Humanities, Community Development, or related field

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture is preferred

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience at village level

  • Demonstrated experience working with local government institutions at Sector and Cell levels (mandatory)


Technical & Administrative Skills

  • Strong training and facilitation skills

  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills

  • Fluency in relevant local languages

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word & Excel)

  • Understanding of Community-Based Development principles

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently and within a team

  • High integrity and strong work ethic

  • Positive attitude in challenging environments


Mandatory Requirements

  • Ability to travel approximately 90% of the time

  • Physically able to hike in high terrain

  • Ability to ride a motorbike with a valid Rwandan rider’s permit

  • Demonstrated experience navigating remote, rural, and hilly terrain
