Position Summary
The Mine Superintendent oversees and manages all site mining operations to ensure efficient, safe, and environmentally compliant production.
This role includes:
Operational leadership
Staff supervision
Occupational health and safety management
Environmental compliance
Community engagement
The Mine Superintendent acts as the key link between site operations and company management, ensuring activities align with company strategy and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Management
Oversee daily mining operations, including extraction, hauling, tramming, processing, and transportation.
Work with the Technical Services Team to develop operational plans and production schedules.
Monitor equipment performance and coordinate maintenance and repairs.
Plan and allocate resources required for the mine plan implementation.
Ensure efficient use of equipment and operational resources.
Support management in business growth initiatives.
2. Occupational Health & Safety
Enforce compliance with health and safety regulations and standards.
Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
Lead safety training programs and ensure staff compliance with safety procedures.
3. Personnel Management
Lead and manage site personnel including:
recruitment
training
performance management
Develop work schedules and staffing plans.
Monitor attendance, leave schedules, and daily work assignments.
Promote teamwork and a positive work environment.
4. Training & Development
Develop and implement training programs for staff.
Ensure employees understand mining operations and safety procedures.
Stay updated on industry trends and best practices.
5. Budget & Resource Management
Prepare and manage operational and capital budgets.
Monitor financial performance and implement cost control measures.
Manage procurement of equipment, materials, and supplies.
6. Environmental Compliance & Community Relations
Ensure compliance with environmental laws and company policies.
Implement and monitor environmental management plans.
Engage local communities and stakeholders.
Implement anti-illegal mining strategies.
7. Reporting & Communication
Report operational performance, incidents, and safety issues to the Mine Manager.
Prepare detailed reports on:
production performance
safety statistics
operational challenges
Facilitate communication between site teams and management.
8. Emergency Response
Develop and implement site emergency response plans.
Lead emergency response during site incidents.
Coordinate with external emergency services.
9. Additional Duties
Ensure compliance with all company policies and mining regulations.
Perform any other tasks assigned by management.
Qualifications & Experience
Applicants must have:
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering with 5 years of underground mining experience, including 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role, OR
Advanced Diploma in Mining with 7 years of underground mining experience, including 2 years in a supervisory role
Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of mining processes, equipment, and safety standards
Experience in budget management and operational planning
Leadership and staff supervision skills
Excellent communication skills (English required)
Strong problem-solving and conflict management skills
Ability to work effectively under pressure
Knowledge of hazard and risk management
Strong reporting and coaching abilities
