Key Responsibilities
The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for supporting effective science teaching and learning through the management and coordination of laboratory activities.
Core Duties
Liaise with academic staff to plan laboratory timetables, equipment use, and work plans
Prepare and conduct trial experiments prior to lessons and demonstrate practical techniques to students
Set up laboratory equipment and materials, including microscopes and scientific instruments
Maintain, calibrate, and repair laboratory equipment as required
Ensure proper cleaning, safe storage, and handling of chemicals and laboratory materials
Manage inventory and stock levels of laboratory equipment and chemicals
Enforce health and safety regulations and ensure compliance at all times
Keep accurate records of experiments, student practical work, and laboratory usage
Catalog and organize experimental records for accessibility
Support teachers during laboratory sessions with technical guidance
Provide individual student support for practical research and experimental learning
Coordinate laboratory activities to optimize resource utilization
Pastoral & School Responsibilities
Undertake pastoral duties, including acting as a form tutor where assigned
Support students academically and personally in alignment with Christian values
Prepare students for examinations and assessments
Manage student behavior in laboratory and school environments
Participate in extracurricular activities such as science fairs, school events, and outings
Attend staff meetings, parent engagements, and school-wide training sessions
Engage in continuous professional development and in-service training
Perform other duties within the scope of the role as assigned
Reporting Line:
The Laboratory Technician will report directly to the Deputy Principal – Secondary Section.
Qualifications & Experience
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education Science with specialization in:
Biology
Chemistry
Physics
General Science
Experience & Skills
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a school laboratory environment
Experience in an international school is a strong advantage
Proven experience managing practical science lessons and experiments
Strong knowledge of laboratory equipment, materials, and safety procedures
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural school environment
Flexibility and adaptability to meet evolving school needs
Additional Qualifications (Advantageous)
Certifications in laboratory safety or educational pedagogy
