Job Overview
RwandAir Ltd, the national flag carrier airline of Rwanda, operates domestic and international services across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East from its hub at Kigali International Airport. As part of its growth and transformation strategy, RwandAir is seeking a highly qualified Technical Training Manager to lead and manage the airline’s technical training and apprenticeship programs.
The role is critical in ensuring regulatory compliance, workforce competence, and the continuous development of technical talent to support aircraft maintenance and airworthiness operations.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Responsibilities
Develop and manage the maintenance apprenticeship program to ensure a sustainable pipeline of technical talent.
Design, develop, and administer technical training courses and materials in line with approved standards.
Develop and coordinate annual and recurrent training plans in collaboration with Technical section heads.
Review and approve all technical training requests, ensuring staff meet course prerequisites.
Maintain confidential examination banks and administer assessments in accordance with approved procedures.
Identify and outsource specialized technical training where in-house capability is unavailable.
Develop, update, and manage all Technical Training procedures in coordination with Compliance and Safety.
Support on-the-job training (OJT) and practical training requirements.
Maintain training facilities, classrooms, and equipment.
Compile and manage the Technical Training budget.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date training records for all Technical staff.
Conduct recurrent and mandatory regulatory training as required by aviation authorities.
Monitor regulatory, procedural, and operational changes and integrate them into training programs.
Ensure confidentiality and security of training materials, records, and examination results.
Participate in assessment panels for maintenance and airworthiness staff authorization and renewals when required.
Ensure Safety Management System (SMS) compliance within the training function.
Train, mentor, and assess the competence of Technical Training staff.
Strategic Responsibilities
Forecast long-term technical training requirements to ensure continued regulatory compliance.
Monitor trends in aircraft maintenance and airworthiness and align training accordingly.
Identify and implement strategically and financially beneficial training programs for the airline.
Stakeholder Management
Liaise with Technical department heads and HR Talent Development teams.
Coordinate development of training materials with relevant technical sections.
Leadership & Management
Lead and manage a team of Technical Instructors.
Develop instructor competencies aligned with fleet complexity and regulatory changes.
Promote a safety-focused, high-accountability culture.
Support mentoring and professional development, particularly for national staff.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering or a related technical discipline,
OR Licensed Aircraft Engineer (EASA Part 66 or ICAO Type II) with relevant aircraft type endorsements and a minimum of 8 years’ experience.At least 8 years of experience in Technical Training, including 3 years in a leadership or management role.
Strong knowledge of aviation regulations (Part 145, CAMO, Part 66, Part 147).
Strong understanding of aircraft maintenance processes, certification procedures, and training organization requirements.
Knowledge of Safety Management Systems (SMS).
Preferred
Experience in airline or MRO technical training environments.
Familiarity with maintenance systems such as AMOS or TRAX.
Knowledge of aircraft types operated by RwandAir.
Skills & Personal Attributes
Strong communication and coordination skills across multiple stakeholders.
Knowledge of EASA and RCAA regulatory frameworks.
High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Fluency in English (French or Kinyarwanda is an added advantage).
Strong aeronautical and airline technical background.
Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks effectively.
Proven leadership, mentoring, coaching, and team development skills.
